Woman Screams When She Spots ‘Two-Headed Snake’ In Back Garden, Stunned When She Realizes What It Really Is

e are republishing this story, which originally made the news in March 2017. A video recorded in Santa Fe, Argentina, went viral worldwide after showing a very unusual creature that seemed to have “two heads, three eyes, and strange skin.” The video quickly attracted over 19 million views, with many viewers puzzled and curious about the nature of this snake-like animal. The mystery deepened until the creature was carefully flipped over, revealing small legs underneath that completely changed its appearance.

The woman who found the creature, Lujan Eroles, shared the video on her Facebook page. Her post quickly gained immense attention, being shared more than 180,000 times and sparking countless guesses and discussions. Some viewers humorously suggested that the creature looked like a Pokémon character, while others guessed it might be a rare type of worm. The true identity of the creature remained a mystery for almost a month.

Eventually, experts identified the animal as a hawk moth caterpillar. These caterpillars are known for their remarkable defense mechanism called mimicry, which helps protect them from predators. When threatened, the caterpillar inflates its tail to imitate the shape of a snake’s head, complete with markings that resemble eyes. In fact, it can even create the effect of a “blinking eye” to further frighten potential attackers. This clever form of deception is a natural survival tactic that deters birds and other predators from attacking.

Although the caterpillar’s appearance may seem frightening or bizarre at first glance, it is completely harmless to humans. This example beautifully demonstrates how animals use adaptation and mimicry in nature to increase their chances of survival. Stories like this remind us of the fascinating and sometimes surprising ways wildlife has evolved to protect itself in the wild.
