After being abused by her mother-in-law, a woman who was very pregnant chose to stand up to her. Things did not go well in the end, though.

Sometimes it’s hard to build and keep relationships with in-laws, especially between mothers and daughters-in-law. What’s worse is when a woman’s husband goes with his mother instead of his wife.

Sad to say, this is what happened to a 21-year-old mother who was expecting twin girls. The woman told the Reddit group about her experience and asked if what she did was the right thing to do.

The woman said that she and her mother-in-law have not gotten along very well lately. When the OP’s in-law moved in with her and her husband six months after her father-in-law died, things got worse.

A woman and her mother-in-law had never been close, in part because they came from different backgrounds. The mother of OP’s husband was from a different land than OP. She often felt like her in-law judged her because she would criticize everything she did, even though she tried hard to please the older woman. It’s true that their tense relationship has made the OP cry.

The OP’s mother-in-law would often ask her to do things. One time, she told her daughter-in-law to cook a dish from her home country without any help or direction.

OP looked up the food and did her best to make it right so that her husband’s mom would be happy. But, no matter how hard she tried, the dish was ignored. What the OP said:

“After one bite, she threw her whole plate away and told me it tasted awful.”

She begged her mother-in-law to be nice.
The woman asked her mother-in-law to treat her better several times, but it didn’t work. She had been treated badly and badly enough. The in-law would tell OP’s husband that his wife was being rude every time this happened.

She couldn’t do everything because she was pregnant. She had to clean, cook, and run errands. The mother-in-law would tell the OP how to do things wrong even while they were doing the chores she gave them. What the woman said:

“She doesn’t get how her son could marry someone who isn’t fit to be a wife.”

There finally came a time when the woman had enough of his crazy mother-in-law. She stood up for herself and told the older woman she was done being bossed around. She wasn’t going to do anything for her in-laws until they were nice to her.

The OP also said that she was married to her son and the mother of her grandkids, both alive and still to be born, even if her mother-in-law didn’t like it.

Her words did not go over well, though. The person in question’s mother-in-law got mad and began insulting her, calling the pregnant woman rude to her parents. The mother-in-law also said she was “disgusted” that her son married such a woman.

When everything was said and done, the OP’s husband still supported his mother. He felt sorry for her when she called him to rant about what his wife had done.

The husband asked his wife to be more understanding of his mother’s grief. He also didn’t think she was trying very hard to be a good mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law.

The woman said, “I told my husband about this a lot of times, but all he did was play down what his mom did.” She now doesn’t know if telling her husband’s mother off was the right thing to do.

As soon as the woman saw her husband with his mother, she sent him proof. The OP decided to record her mean mother-in-law and show it to her husband. He finally did something and told his mother what the rules were. He didn’t want to kick her out of the house, though.
